David Jones
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of David Jones on 9 November.
Dave began his career in building control in the mid-1970s at Broxtowe Borough Council, moving to Newark and Sherwood DC in the mid-80s. He subsequently became part of the East Midlands Building Consultancy when N&S joined the South Kesteven and Rushcliffe partnership. He retired shortly afterwards and then returned to work at Bassetlaw, slowing down when health issues limited his work time. He was proud of his involvement with Southwell Minster and acted as a sidesman for many years
LABC Past President and Board Member David Darlington says “Dave was always the consummate professional, but also had a sense of fun. He was a willing volunteer at regional level, representing the East Midlands on the management services and legislative group for years. He was always prepared for meetings, even national ones, and willing to ask a pertinent question. He was ahead of everyone when it came to Twitter and the marketing side, having a very able sidekick in Marti Voce, trainee of the year in 2014 who he was justifiably enormously proud of. Between them, they seemed to run Newark and Sherwood, and the joke was that Marti would jump from trainee to manager when Dave retired. At that time Newark and Sherwood were probably the standout service in the East Midlands because of Dave’s leadership.
Richard Scott, Past President and LABC Head of Member Support says “he was such a lovely man. He always had a smile on his face and had a great sense of fun yet was the consummate professional. I remember organising his retirement present and a line he always liked to use was “smoke and mirrors”, so we had that engraved on the watch we presented him with. He’ll be missed by so many”
Our thoughts are with his wife Jayne, his daughters Lisa and Victoria and his family and friends.
